Scope of Certification in Pakistan

What is the scope of Certifications in Pakistan? . .    I have been asked this question by many young IT Professionals (who are in a early stage of their career) during various discussion we had during meetings in an IT session or in a professional training. Usually their focus of the question is not to understand the benefit of the knowledge of that specific area (Project Management or Business Analysis). I wish we all understand that perhaps if we adopt any good methodology only than we will see its benefits.

My point of view is that there are basically two objectives when you focus on any kind of certification.
  1. You want to improve your knowledge and skills in that particular area. You also want to compare yourself with standard practices.
  2. You want to improve your CV just by getting certification

Be it any certification, PMP, ITIL, COBIT or CBAP. I think with some efforts and guideline how to pass a particular exam you can pass that. You can get marks that will enable you for the certification. But objective of only passing will NOT help you in acquiring the mastery of that subject. Without the efforts of learning that subject you cannot really improve your knowledge and skills in that subject. And that is the reason you cannot add value in your JOB or performance.

And we say certification has no scope in Pakistan. I have seen people who have done certification of PMP but they did not adopt any of the single knowledge area they were taught. You can imagine the improvement they would have in their job or career.
